MoreCrop is an information technology system for managing
diseases of barley in the Pacific Northwest (PNW). The program
is referred to by the acronym MoreCrop (Managerial Options for
Reasonable Economical Control of Rusts and Other Pathogens) and
is designed to predict diseases and provide managerial options
in agronomic zones of the PNW. Barley growers, extension agents,
consultants and other professionals involved in barley production
can use MoreCrop as a decision support system. MoreCrop for
Barley is an adaptation of the MoreCrop Model for wheat, and
contains up-to-date information related to barley cultivars and
their characteristics, agronomic zones, fungicide technical information,
crop managerial options and other subject matter relevant to
barley production in the PNW.
MoreCrop can be used as an educational tool for understanding
the epidemiology and control of barley diseases. Barley growers
can use the program to build a crop managerial scenario, analyze
a predefined crop managerial scenario, and test a customized
disease control program. MoreCrop can be used as a training
and reference tool to solve real-time problems, and it can serve
as a prototype in developing a total crop managerial program
for barley.
